240 oil supertankers berthed at Kharg Island after JCPOA

Bushehr, July 31, IRNA Director General of Bushehr Department of Ports and Maritime Organization announced that for the first time since the JCPOA 240 oil supertankers from different world countries berthed at Kharg Island.


Mohammad Mehdi Bonchari said a total number of 295 ships with plus 100 thousand capacity berthed at the Persian Gulf island since the signing of the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which happened July 14, 2015.

During the first four months of the Iranian calendar year that started on March 20, 2016, 35.8 million tons of products have been loaded and unloaded in Kharg Island which shows a 60 percent increase compared with the preceding year, the official said.

Kharg Island is one of the important export hubs in the country with most of Iran's crude oil being loaded in this important strategic island, he added.

He noted that tankers from France, Spain, Greece, Poland, Netherlands, Italy and South Korea berthed at the continental island during the said period.

Kharg is Iran's biggest export oil terminal located 57 km northwest of Bushehr in the Persian Gulf region.
