Six Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers strike ISIL targets in Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bombers struck ISIL targets in Syria's Palmyra, Arak, As Sukhnah and At Tawbah, the Russian Defense Ministry stated on Thursday.

"In July 21, six Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bombers conducted airstrikes onintelligence-verified ISIL targets East ofPalmyra, inthe cities ofArak, As Sukhnah and At Tawbah. The targets included posts, militants gatherings and terrorists' equipment," the statement read, Sputnik reported.

As a result of the airstrikes, two terrorists' command centers, troops and camouflaged military equipment were destroyed.

Boosting reconnaissance, especially fromspace, allowed detecting new targets forairstrikes againstthe objects ofthe ISIL militant group, inSyria the Russian Defense Ministry stated.

"To improve the efficiency ofthe disclosure ofterrorist group targets and the accuracy ofdetermining their origin, reconnaissance was intensified inthe area, including space-based reconnaissance. Due tointensified intelligence, new terrorist targets were detected and destroyed," the statement read.

According tothe statement, the aircraft returned safely toairfields aftercarrying outairstrikes.

The US-led international coalition was notified inadvance ofRussian Tu-22M3 strategic long-range bombers' attack onISIL targets, the statement added.
