Iranian Army working on counter-threat scenarios

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Ground Force Commander of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan, said his troops are monitoring events and enemy moves in the region and have devised various plans to stand against any possible scenario of threat.

Addressing a gathering of senior Ground Force commanders in Western Iran on Tuesday, General Pourdastan underlined the highest level of combat preparedness among his troops, and cautioned that sensitive conditions are reigning the region.

"The Army Ground Force monitors events and developments as well as enemy movements in the region precisely and has developed a plan for combating any type of threat," he stressed.

Early last month, Pourdastan underlined that Iran is serious about fighting ISIL and nips terrorist threats in the bud outside its borders.

"The Islamic Republic's strategy is annihilation of the ISIL and other terrorist groups outside the borders," Pourdastan said, addressing a ceremony in the Northwestern city of Tabriz early in June.

"Creation of the terrorist groups, including the ISIL, is the result of the Islamophobia thoughts that foment sedition with the support of the arrogant powers and the US," he added.

Noting that the US attacked Iraq to hit a blow at the Islamic Revolution, Pourdastan said that presence of a wise leader and powerful Armed Forces in Iran have dissuaded Washington and its allies from launching a military attack against the country.

He warned that the enemies have today resorted to other methods against Iran, including religious wars.
