The nuclear deal reached with Iran one year ago has lived up to its expectations, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on the agreements anniversary on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed inJanuary 2016 that Iran had fulfilled its obligations underthe nuclear pact, prompting Brussels toscale downnuclear-related economic and financialsanctions.
"As oftoday, one year later, a programlived upto its expectations, and thus far produced an ability tobe able tocreate a peaceful nuclear program withIran living upto its part ofthis bargain and obligation," Kerry stated inParis.
The state secretary underscored that the United States continues tohave "other real issues" withIran, and Washington intends toresolve those matters.
"But we believe that the door that has been opened asa consequence ofthis dialogue gives us an opportunity tobe able todo exactly that," Kerry added.
On July 14, 2015, the P5+1 group ofcountries, consisting ofthe United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, and Iran, reached the Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction toensure the peaceful nature ofIrans nuclear program inreturn forsanctions relief.
