Astonished residents inthe Iranian city ofKhalkhal have spotted a local dog which spends its evenings picking uptrash left behindby humans.
According toa report fromthe Iranian news agency IRNA, the dog waits untilafter midnight tocome outand clear rubbish fromthe streets, when they are free ofpeople.
The dog appears tobe shy aboutits environment-saving activities if it sees a person, it runs forcover beforereturning towork when they have gone.

The dog grips bags ofgarbage withhis teeth, and takes them tothe nearestrubbish bin. Local people told IRNA that the dog may have been trained toclean the streets bylocal municipal officials.

The report fromIran is not the only one abouta dog which has been trained toclear upafter humans.
Last month, local Russian TV channel TVK interviewed a resident ofthe Siberian region ofKrasnoyarsk, afterother residents reported seeing her dog, called Ponchik (doughnut), picking uprubbish and taking it tothe bin ina local park.
"I was just walking along, picking upbottles and throwing them inthe bin, and then he also started topick upbottles and throw them inthe bin," explained Lyudmila Sharova, a local resident who tries tokeep the park clean.
'A canine janitor has appeared inZheleznogorsk,' reported TVK.
"Then I started toencourage it, I told him, 'there's a bottle, take it tothe rubbish bin,'" Lyudmila said.
"I often walk inthe park and I am amazed bythis dog," said another resident.
"I wonder athow so smart and neat she is, incomparison withsome ofour townspeople," she said.
