TEHRAN, Jun. 28 (MNA) – The Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (CoB-NAM) held its monthly meeting in the United Nations chaired by Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN on Monday.
During the meeting, Iran’s Representative to the UN Gholamali Khoshroo presented a report on his activities in the past month which reflected NAM’s positions in various international meetings, and discussed details about previous meetings held by Iran’s representative delegation in the UN with an aim to prepare for the coming Summit Conference of NAM’s Heads of State in Venezuela.
The 17th summit of the group will be held in Venezuela on July 13-18, 2016, expected to be attended by all member countries of the bloc.
During the Monday meeting, coordinators of working groups including Revitalization of the General Assembly, Peacekeeping, NAM factions in the Security Council, and Peace Reconciliation Commission, presented their activity report during June.
Ambassador of Palestine to the UN also briefed the NAM members on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue.
In another part, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrisov offered some explanations in regard to his country’s initiatives about fighting terrorism and the world free of nuclear weapons which were followed by comments and concerns of a group of NAM member states.
At the end of the meeting, the representative of Venezuela presented a report on his country’s measures for holding the 17th Summit Conference of NAM’s Heads of State on July 13-18 on Margarita Island.
The Non-Aligned Movement is a Movement of 115 members representing the interests and priorities of developing countries.
The Summit Conference of Heads of State or Government is the highest decision-making authority of the Movement, held every three years.
The 16th NAM summit took place in Tehran from 26 to 31 August 2012, during which representatives from over 150 countries were scheduled to attend. At the summit, Iran took over from Egypt as Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement for the period 2012 to 2015.
