TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced a Friday night fighting between its forces and a group of armed outlaws in a northwestern border area has left 5 mobsters killed, including two ringleaders.
The IRGC public relations department released a statement on Saturday evening, providing more details on Friday night’s operation against terrorists in Sarvabad and Mahabad border regions in the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, the clash between troops from the IRGC’s Hamze Sayyid al-Shohada Base and the armed outlaws affiliated with anti-revolutionary groups led to the killing of 5 “mercenaries of the global arrogance”, including two of their commanders, named Arash Menbari and Shooresh Menbari.
Moreover, a remarkable amount of weapons, ammunition and other equipment were confiscated from the outlaws in the operation, it added.
The statement also noted that the IRGC servicemen did not suffer any casualties.
The operation came after three successive attacks on terrorist groups along the Iranian borders in the past weeks.
On June 13, IRGC Ground Force troops killed five members of the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group in an ambush in Sardasht region in West Azerbaijan.
On the same day, Iranian police forces killed five members of the Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group in an exchange of fire in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, while a trooper was also martyred.
And on June 15, the IRGC forces killed a number of militants in clashes with two terrorist teams trying to intrude into Oshnavieh border area near the frontier with Iraq.
