Zarif departs for Norway, Germany

Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif departed Tehran for Oslo for a two-day official visit to the Scandinavian country.

In Oslo, Zarif will meet his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende to confer on bilateral ties.

The Iranian foreign minister will also pay an official visit to Germany upon his return from Norway.

'Zarif, heading a high-ranking delegation, will travel to Norway on June 12,' Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said on Saturday.

Jaberi Ansari said that the Iranian foreign minister will meet his Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende in Oslo to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.

Zarif will also conduct a series of diplomatic talks to broaden Tehran-Oslo cooperation.

'After visiting Oslo, the Iranian foreign minister will embark on a short visit to Berlin, Germany to meet his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier; Zarif will discuss bilateral ties and regional developments with Steinmeier,' Jaberi Ansari added.

In early March, Norwegian Ambassador in Tehran Odyssey Norheim underlined that Norway and Iran are keen to boost the level of their bilateral relations.

'The Norway-Iran relations are booming after the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the removal of sanctions,' Norheim said.

Zarif in a meeting with German Deputy Foreign Minister Markus Ederer in Tehran called for the broadening of trade and economic relations.

'Tehran and Berlin should try to boost the volume of their trade exchanges and engage in joint venture cooperation,' Zarif said.

He underlined that unlike other European and western countries, Germany is not pursuing the regional affairs through a negative outlook and this is an important factor for trans-regional players who are looking for peaceful approaches to come out of the regional crises.
