UN: ISIL enters new phase of terrorist acts

TEHRAN, Jun. 07 (MNA) The terrorist group ISIL seems to be moving towards a new stage of operations, characterized by the use of international supporters to attack civilian targets, United Nations warns today.

In his report to the Security Council on the threat posed by the extremist organization, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that some recent progress in the fight against the terrorists in Syria and Iraq would explain the tactic of increasing the violent actions in several parts of the world.

According to the diplomat, the global threat from the ISIL remains high and continues to diversify even though its territorial expansion has been halted or even reversed in Iraq and Syria, where foreign coalitions play an important role in the fight against the terrorists.

Several Member States warn about the fact that group leaders seek ways to elevate the role of its affiliates, informed in his report, derived from resolution 2253, December 2015, of the Security Council aimed at strengthening the fight against the ISIL.

According to the Secretary General, terrorists inspired or executed, during the last six months, attacks in Germany, Bangladesh, Belgium, Egypt, United States, France, Indonesia, Lebanon, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey, suggesting the beginning of the new phase.

'Therefore, the global threat remains significant' he pointed out in its report.
