Tehran, June 4, IRNA � President Hassan Rouhani, in a message on Friday, congratulated the Iranian nation on the advance of Iran's national volleyball team to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after 52 years.

Iran defeated heavyweight Poland 3-1 in the Olympics Qualification Tournament underway in Tokyo to mightily advance to the Olympics.

In his message, the president said that the valuable victory of the national volleyball team once again triggered pride and happiness across the country.

This win along with other victories against major world volleyball heavyweights turned another golden page in the history of honors of the Iranian young people, Rouhani said.

He thanked the Iranian athletes, coaches and all those being behind this victory, wishing further success for the Iranian squad in the Olympic games.

In its game which was played at the world-class Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Iran defeated Poland in the first and second sets 25-20 and 25-18 respectively.

However it was Poland that appeared to be more resolved and beat Iran 25-20 in the third set.

Finally in the fourth set, Iran managed to defeat its powerful rival 34-32 to win the game 3-1.
