Tehran, July 4, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari on Saturday felicitated the ‘prideful advance’ of the Iranian national volleyball team to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after 52 years.
Iran defeated heavyweight Poland 3-1 in Olympics Qualification Tournament in Tokyo today to mightily advance to the Olympics.
In a message on the occasion, Jabari Ansari noted that the victory and other victories in the recent years by the Iranian volleyball team indicated that in addition to their permanent shining in individual games, the Iranians can be successful in team games too.
He congratulated the victory to the Iranian volleyball players and all of the Iranian nation.
In its game, which was played at the world-class Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Iran defeated Poland in the first and second sets 25-20 and 25-18 respectively.
However it was Poland that appeared to be more resolved and beat Iran 25-20 in the third set.
Finally in the fourth set, Iran managed to defeat its powerful rival 34-32 to win the game 3-1.
