During the meeting, the two top diplomats also explored avenues for the expansion of bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Zarif, for his part, referred to his country's extensive human resources and economic capacities, and expressed the hope that Tehran and Helsinki would further broaden their ties during the post-sanctions era in Iran.
In the meeting, Soini expressed pleasure that a large economic delegation is accompanying the Iranian foreign minister, and called for the development of mutual cooperation in different fields, including communications and training.
In relevant remarks earlier this month Finnish Ambassador to Tehran Harri Kmrinen underlined that his country is willing to broaden economic and trade ties with Iran.
"We are trying to pave the way for the expansion of bilateral ties between the two countries," Kmrinen said in a meeting with a group of chief executives of Iranian private companies in the city of Khorramabad.
Finland's ambassador pointed to his country's products such as elevators, diesel engines and Nokia mobile phones, and said, "Finland's products are exported to 120 countries and Iran can maintain trade ties with Finland in these sectors."
Also, in late January, Zarif and Finnish President Sauli Niinist in a meeting in the city of Davos, Switzerland, underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation in different fields.
During the meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Zarif and Niinist explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral relations.
The Iranian foreign minister and the Finnish president called for the enhancement cooperation between the two countries' governmental and private sectors.
Zarif and Niinist also discussed the latest regional developments.
