Iran to deploy new naval flotilla to high seas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian Navys 41st flotilla of warships will depart from the countrys southern coasts on Wednesday for the international waters.

The dispatch of the 41st flotilla, comprising Martyr Naqdi destroyer and Lavan logistic warship, will coincide with the arrival of its predecessor from a nearly 2-month overseas mission.

Including Alborz destroyer and Tonb logistic warship, the 40th flotilla has sailed 6,750 nautical miles in the international waters in 55 days.

According to the Navys commanders, the purpose of such routine missions is to ensure security for vessels in shipping lines, fight against piracy and hoist the flag of Iran in high seas.

Since November 2008, the Iranian navy has conducted anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and Bab el-Mandeb Strait to protect the countrys vessels against pirate attacks.
