Siemens launches locomotive concept to modernize Iran rail network

TEHRAN, May 17 (Shana) -- Siemens has unveiled a tailored concept for high-speed electric locomotives the foundation for modern, sophisticated and sustainable rail infrastructure in Iran.

Launched at the Iran Rail Expo 2016 in Tehran, where Siemens is exhibiting its full rail portfolio, the concept locomotive has been designed to accommodate Irans demanding climatic conditions and requirements for increased passenger and freight services.

Irans transport network needs modern, sophisticated technologyfor urban rail, fast intercity and freight rail to accommodate rising populations and an expanding industrial environment, said Dr. Mohsen Nayebzadeh, CEO of Siemens in Iran. This new concept meets these demands using innovative technology, local knowledge and ingenuity to build the foundation for fast, efficient, safe and modern rail infrastructure in Iran. We are committed to using our technology to make a positive difference in the lives of the Iranian population, and to support the countrys sustainable economic development.

The concept locomotives based on the proven and successful Siemens Vectron platform from Europe. Designed as a high-power universal locomotive and able to reach a maximum speed of 200km/h, it has the potential to significantly decrease the traveling times between cities in Iran. It is also capable of being used to operate freight trains.

Siemens is exhibiting its full rail portfolio at Iran Rail Expo 2016, addressing the requirements of the countrys future rail networks with technology for infrastructure, rolling stock, service, electrification and automation, to support mobility for a growing population and increasing industrialization. The companys Mobility Consulting division, which works with key decision makers to develop transport systems, is also present at the Expo.

The company has contributed technology to Irans infrastructure since 1868, and has maintained a comprehensive local operation, offering technology for electrification, automation anddigitizationin support of the countrys sustainable economic development.
