Israeli forces launch artillery attack on Hamas bases in Gaza

Israeli forces have fired artillery shells at military towers belonging to the Palestinian resistancemovement,Hamas, in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

The attack took place in Gazas eastern Shuja'iyya district on Wednesday, thePalestinian Information Center reported.

The al-QassamBrigades, the armed wing of Hamas, responded to the assault by hitting an Israeli bulldozer with mortars near the same district in the coastal sliver.

An unnamed Palestinian security source confirmed the Israeli raid, saying that two shells were fired at a site under the control of the Interior Ministry which caused damage but no casualties.

Meanwhile, Israeli sources claimed that two of their patrol vehicles were targeted with mortars and explosive devices early on Wednesday on the border between the besieged coastal enclave and the occupied territories.

The alleged Palestinian attacks left no Israelis injured, but caused damage, the Israeli sources added.

The Israeli army tanks also fired at a target in the Palestinian enclave, according to reports.

The Tel Aviv regime and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire that ended Israels devastating 50-day aggression in 2014.

The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since June 2007. The blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.

Israel has also waged three wars on Gaza since 2008, including the 2014 offensive, which left more than 2,200 Palestinians dead and over 11,100 others injured.
