Leader’s top military aide stresses US-led coalition’s failure in region

Senior Military Aide to the Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi

TEHRAN (FNA)- Top Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi underlined that the US-led coalition which claims to be fighting against the terrorist groups in the region has not been able to reach its goals.

“The US-led coalition couldn’t attain its goals in the past five years,” Rahim Safavi said, addressing a gathering in the Northern city of Rasht on Sunday afternoon.

Noting that the coalition which is being led by Iran, Syria, Iraq and Hezbollah is gaining victories instead, he said, “Iran doesn’t want (enemies make) any change in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon which are the pivots of resistance.”

In relevant remarks in April, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said certain powers, the United States in particular, are neither sincere nor serious in the war on terrorism and extremism.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Tehran.

“Certain powers, particularly the US, are not sincere and serious in their alleged campaign against terrorism, but Muslim countries can distance the Muslim world from such threat through authentic cooperation,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

The Leader referred to Washington’s aid to the terrorist group of ISIL in Iraq as an example of dishonest behaviors by various self-declared anti-terror coalitions, adding, “In a bid to justify their double-standards, they classify terrorism into good and bad categories.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said terrorists of European nationality are also massively wreaking havoc in Iraq and Syria.

“These realities prove the lack of seriousness on the part of the West, particularly the Americans, in the fight against terrorism,” added the Leader.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Muslim nations are facing the threat of terrorist groups acting in the name of Islam but in fact acting against Islam and Muslims.”

“On the other hand, certain Western powers are not willing to see Muslim countries united and stand by each other,” the Leader added.
