Early settlement to the Syrian conflict is a common goal of the international community, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday.
BEIJING (Sputnik) — Syria has been mired in proxy war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups,
“The Syrian problem. A common goal of the international community is to resolve the current situation [in the country] as soon as possible,” Xi said at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The international community, including Russia, the United States and key European and Middle Eastern states, is undertaking steps to end the Syrian conflict and put an end to the violence.
The CICA is an international forum aimed at promoting peace, stability and cooperation in Asia, according to the organization’s website. The organization has 26 member states, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran among others.
