Tehran, April 28, IRNA � On the occasion of the establishment anniversary of the Urban and Rural Councils, April 28, a big gathering of councils kicked off on Thursday in presence of President Hassan Rouhani.


The 4th meeting of Urban and Rural Councils of the country started its work by speech of President Rouhani in Tehran.

In opening ceremony, Chairman of Islamic City Council of Tehran Mehdi Chamran, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office Mohammad Nahavandian and Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli were present, too.

There are 1,240 cities and 38,000 rural areas in the country which have such councils.

Totally 118,000 persons are members of the URC in Iran, among them 110,000 from rural areas and 8,000 from cities.

The first gathering of the URC was held 17 years ago.
