Russian S-300 air defense systems deliveries to Iran continue

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hussein Jaber Ansari said that the agreement on S-300 delivery from Russia to Iran is being implemented.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The agreement tosupply Russian S-300 air defense systems toIran is inthe execution stage, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hussein Jaber Ansari said Monday.

On April 11, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia had made the first contracted delivery ofthe S-300 systems asscheduled.
"The agreement onS-300 is being implemented. We hope that its implementation will be conducted ina natural way," Ansari said, asquoted bythe Tasnim news agency.


Iran unveiled its first S-300 systems duringan annual Army Day parade inmid-April.
The $900-million Moscow-Tehran contract todeliver five Russian S-300 systems toIran was signed in2007. It was suspended afterthe adoption ofUN Security Council sanctions onIran inmid-2010.

In April 2015, Russia resumed the talks onS-300 deliveries followinga framework agreement onthe landmark deal ensuring the peaceful nature ofTehrans nuclear program. The first delivery underthe contract took place earlier inApril.

Russia and Iran are expected tofulfill the S-300 contracts in2016, according tothe Iranian defense officials.
