Iran to take part in security conference in China

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran plans to participate in the fifth regular foreign ministers' meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) due to be held in the Chinese capital of Beijing in coming days.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday and Thursday with foreign ministers and high-ranking diplomatic delegations from the member states in attendance.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, nearly 40 delegations from CICA member countries and observer countries as well as international organizations have confirmed attendance.

China hosted the fourth CICA summit in Shanghai in 2014. It holds the CICA presidency from 2014 to 2016.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia is an inter-governmental forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.

It is a forum based on the recognition that there is close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world.

The idea of convening the CICA was first proposed by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on October 5, 1992, at the 47th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
