New York, April 21, IRNA � Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman strongly condemned a recent verdict by the US Supreme Court on obliging Iran to pay compensation, describing it as another evidence of the continuation of the Zionist circles' influence on US decision-makings.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari in a statement issued on Thursday said that the US verdict contradicts the principles and basics of the international rights.

'The issuance of such verdict by the US Supreme Court is tantamount to ridiculing justice and law and it does not create any right for the US nationals,' he added.

Jaberi Ansari said that such verdict is stealing the assets and properties of the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that the US government is solely responsible for compensating for the damages and paying the compensations imposed by the verdict on Iran.

Furthermore, this verdict shows that the US government is still under the influence of the Zionist circles and continuation of the hostile acts of that government against Iran and it only adds to increasing the intense mistrust of the Iranian government and nation towards the hostile policies of the US.

The US Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that almost $2bn in frozen Iranian assets must be turned over to American families of people killed in the 1983 bombing of a US Marine Corps barracks in the Lebanese capital of Beirut and other attacks blamed on Iran.

The assets belong to the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), which has been blocked under US sanctions.
