German agriculture minister due in Iran Sunday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) German Minister of Food and Agriculture Christian Schmidt is scheduled to pay an official visit to Iran this weekend for talks on closer cooperation between the two nations in the field of farming industry.

Heading a 20-strong economic delegation, Schmidt will arrive in Tehran on April 10.

During his two-day visit, the German minister will sit down with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Hojjati and a number of other officials to discuss development of cooperation between the two countries in various spheres of agriculture.

The two sides are also expected to exchange views on potential joint projects to attract foreign investment and review previous bilateral collaborations.

A number of German officials will accompany Schmidt during his Tehran visit.

Back in January, Iran and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop cooperation between the two countries in various areas of agriculture.

In a meeting in the German capital of Berlin on January 16, Hojjati and Schmidt signed the MoU on bilateral cooperation in various spheres of agriculture, including research, education and agribusiness.
