Iran’s Kharg Island is famous because most of the country’s crude is exported from there.

Kharg has a small indigenous population. Additionally, the island hosts thousands of people who work on its oil facilities and nearby oil platforms.

But this sensitive part of Iran has another side to it, too. The island has its unique natural and historic places, which are very much unknown even to the majority of Iranians. The obscurity is due to the travel restrictions for non-islanders and unauthorized individuals due to the strategic importance as well as safety precautions.

In this feature, we have looked into some of the mesmerizing natural and historical places on the island to see a Kharg without its oil facilities.
