‘Immortal’ to vie in Beijing Intl. Film Festival

TEHRAN, Apr. 03 (MNA) – Hadi Mohaghegh’s ‘Immortal’ (Persian: 'Mamiro') will be screened in the competition section of the 6th Beijing International Film Festival in China.

Iranian filmmaker Hadi Mohaghehg told Mehr News that his feature film ‘Mamiro’ (Immortal) is currently participating in the 21st edition of Vilnius International Film Festival (Vilnius IFF) in Lithuania, running from 31 March to 13 April; “the Vilnius Film Festival is a good film event and I am pleased that my movie is participating in it, although I could not attend the festival myself.”

He went on to add that ‘Mamiro’ will also vie in the 6th Beijing International Film Festival, saying “Mamiro will be screened in the competition section of the festival and I will also be present during its screening in China.”

“Having your film screened in international festivals gives the opportunity to make your production better known among the audience and it will give them the incentive to come and watch the film,” he said. “also, the film can have different effects on audience from different countries. For example, a Brazilian filmmaker may produce a film with a certain meaning in mind but I, as an Iranian audience, may have a different interpretation of it.”

Founded in 2011, Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) is a large-sized film activity and considered as a big film market in the region. The 6th edition of the film event will run from April 16th to 23rd.

‘Immortal’ chronicles the loneliness of an old suicidal man who lives with his grandson and blames himself for all the disastrous events that had happened in his life, while the grandson is determined to convince him he has many reasons to live. This moving tale took home the major award at the 20th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and was praised by New Currents jury president Sylvia Chang for its "extraordinary feat of visual storytelling, filled with emotion."

Mohaghegh's feature film has also won the Best Film and Best Actor awards at the 14th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF), India.
