Iraq’s Wasit governor calls for cultural activities with Iran

Tehran, March 17, IRNA – Governor of Iraqi Wasit province in a meeting with Iran’s cultural attaché to Baghdad on Wednesday called for the development of cultural relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Referring to the cultural commonalities between the two friendly and neighboring countries, Malik Khalaf al-Dariee said Iran’s support of the Iraqi people in recent years indicates the high morale of Iranian authority in backing the oppressed nations.

The Iraqi governor called for Iran’s scientific and cultural cooperation with Iraq and expressed Iraq’s readiness to develop mutual cooperation. He noted that Iranian elite reciters of the Holy Quran take part in the Iraqi annual International Quranic Festival of Saeed-Ibn-Jubayer.

The Iranian cultural attaché Hojjatoleslam Gholam-Reza Abazari said Wasit Province is of particular significance because of its proximity with Iranian border provinces.

He also expressed Iran’s full readiness for bilateral scientific cooperation and exchange of university professors and students as well as arranging Persian courses in Iraq.

Abazari further called for setting up exhibitions in the field of cinema and said launching a Quranic center in Iraq is of special importance.
