Tehran, March 15, IRNA � Iran's first-ever aquarium tunnel was inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of vice president and head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (CHHTO) in Isfahan's Nazhvan Forest Park.


The tunnel is also the largest of its kind in the Middle East and is built in a 3,500 square meter underground area with about six-meter height and a foreign investor is involved in the project.

The aquarium contains 1,080 cubic meters of water and the tourists and Isfahani citizens can view the rarest types of fish both on their sides and above their heads, experiencing the conditions that the scuba divers can see in 35-meters depth of the oceans.

The tunnel has 33 sub-aquariums in which various types of underwater species in sweet and salty waters, sponges and starfish brought to this aquarium from five oceans around the globe are on display for enthusiastic visitors.

The CHHTO chief Masud Soltanifar said on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the aquarium that the opening of such complexes contribute to attracting a larger number of tourists to such beautiful Iranian cities as Isfahan.

The Governor General of Isfahan Rasul Zargarpur, expressing delight over the opening of the eye-catching project, said the Isfahan Municipality played a noticeable role in its completion.
An aquarium or exhibit tunnel is an underwater structure that passes through an aquarium, typically with sharks and related aquatic life. They are usually made of thick acrylic material.

Most aquarium tunnels are cylindrical in shape, though tunnels can be made elliptical to make them wider and still keep the top of the tunnel closer to the visitors, or even square.
