Iran, Russia can have strategic ties: FM first deputy

Qom, March 9, IRNA Iran's First Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi said that Tehran and Moscow can establish strategic ties as Russia is restoring its image in the international relations in the wake of demise of the Soviet Union.

Speaking at a seminar themed Iran's Foreign Policy in Emerging International Order here on Wednesday, he also said that Iran has stood against the conspiracy in Syria which initially aimed at disconnecting the line of anti-Israel resistance.

'From very beginning, our position was to consider the right of the fight against terrorism, foreign intervention, and determining the fate for the people of Syria,' he added.

Sarmadi also said the Saudi Arabia is following up a policy of 'self-destruction' and its government's provoked and hasty decisions couple with adventurism and escalation of tension are in rivalry with Iran.

'We are not bothered because Iran's influence in the region is because of its appropriate policies.'

The senior diplomat added, 'We will not be concerned at all by Saudi Arabia's progress and have no problem with this country. However, Iran's progress and that of other regional countries is seen in Saudi Arabia as a threat factor.'
