Daesh attacks against US targets likely to increase

The United States remains the No. 1 target for Daesh terrorists and attacks are expected to become more frequent in the years ahead, the US House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee warned in a new report.





WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The report, released onThursday, said that the numbers represent a relatively high success ratio that will likely continue toinfluence the terror groups emphasis on "frequent attempts rather thanfewer, long-term plots."
"The groups focus onexternal operations has risen significantly," the report said. "In 2014, there were 19 ISIS-linked [Daesh] plots againstthe West; in2015, the figure more thandoubled to48. More than40 percent of [75] total plots have been executed, while the rest were disrupted."


In addition, the report explains that the United States is the No. 1 target forthe ISIS, withmore thanone-third ofits external operations aimed atthe United States or its interests overseas.

The report also warns that refugee flows fromSyria and availability offake passports are being exploited byDaesh todeploy terrorists.


Plots recounted inthe report include a December 2015 attack inthe US state ofCalifornia, which killed 14 civilians; an attempted attack inTexas, a plot todetonate explosives atNew York City landmarks; a plot toshoot tourists onFlorida beaches, a plot tolive-stream a shooting rampage ata college campus and a plot todetonate pipe bombs onCapitol Hill inWashington, DC.

The rise inDaesh-related incidents made 2015 the most active year forhomegrown jihadist terrorism ever tracked inthe United States, the report concludes.

Daesh, has been designated a terrorist organization and is outlawed inthe United States, Russia aswell asin numerous other countries.
