Foreign firms keen to invest in Irans power projects: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) The managing director of Iran Water and Energy Resources Development Company said Tuesday that several foreign firms have shown eagerness to build hydroelectric power plants in Iran.





Numerous foreign companies from various countries have expressed willingness to set up hydroelectric power plants in Iran, Seyed Mohammad Reza Rezazadeh told Tasnim on Tuesday.

He said Tehran is in talks with the firmsto study their proposals and finalize any potential projects.

Iran Water and Energy Resources Development Company (IWPRDC), as the governments representative, will be the lead contractor of the projects, Rezazadeh said, adding that foreign firms will operate under the supervision of IWPRDC.

Iran is the Middle Easts biggest electricity producer with a capacity of 70,000 megawatt-hours. In recent years, it has put greater emphasis on participation of domestic and foreign investors in electricity generation sector.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Iran became both a popular private and public venture.
