Advisor: Iran tries for regional convergence to confront dust

Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA Special assistant for head of Department of Environment Majid Shafeipour said that Iran's efforts to organize regional convergence to confront dust did not reach conclusion, because of security situation in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria, so efforts to present the issue in an international level is in agenda now.


Shafeipour, who is head of the international affairs center as well as Conventions of the DoE reminded approval of Iran's draft resolution in the UN General Assembly and said that dust storm is one of the most challenging new emerging environmental issues in the region of west Asia.

This phenomenon had a great deal of damages for country in the past one decade.

He added that according to experts' view more than two third of polluting resources and dust centers threatening Iran located in west Asia region and out of Iranian borders.

Shafeipour underlined necessity of regional cooperation and efforts in order to confront with this phenomenon and added that countries, regional and international organizations should form a wide range of cooperation to prevent intensification and expansion of this environmental problem.
