Khorramabad, Feb 21, IRNA � Shiraz Valley in Kouhdasht, Lorestan province, will be registered on the global heritage list as a global geopark, said an official with provincial Governorate General.


Mehrdad Ghazanfari told a session attended by Jose Brilha, evaluator of global geoparks that from among three provincial sites, Shiraz Valley corresponded with global standards further than the others.

A UNESCO delegation is currently in the province to examine features of the site for global registration, he said.

Ghazanfari also said that Shiraz Valley will first be registered on national heritage list to pave the way for its global registration.

Introduction of Lorestan province as geotourism capital reveals its capabilities in tourism sector, he said.

The official further noted that global registration of Shiraz Valley will be a starting point for investment and arrival of the tourists in the province subsequently.
