Shamkhani: Any tension detrimental to region
Tehran, Feb 20, IRNA Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said that security of the Persian Gulf and the region is the security of all and that any tension and crisis are detrimental to the regional states.


He made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on Saturday.
During the meeting, Shamkhani said, he discussed regional developments and expansion of mutual cooperation in political, cultural and economic fields with the Omani minister.

Referring to historic and profound ties between the two countries which have forged unprecedented convergence in the region, he said that Iran's major priority in foreign policy is developing all-out ties with neighbors and promote constructive ties based on mutual interests.
Shamkhani described Oman as a friendly and reliable partner of Iran, calling for joint efforts to bridge the gap in political ties, using the post-sanctions atmosphere.

Underlining Iran's stable policy of pursuing ties on the basis of self-restraint and understanding with neighbors, he said that certain regional states have eliminated the grounds for dialogue and challenged management of regional of regional crises through hasty and arrogant measures.
Iran shares sufferings of the victims of terrorism and illegitimate attacks in the region and tries to settle crises to prevent material and spiritual losses in the Islamic world, he said.

Respecting public demands and the right to determine the fates is a priority for Iran, he said, noting that military approaches in Syria and Bahrain and bombing Yemenis will not be able to change the nations' resolve to choose their leaders.
Bin Alawi, for his part, called for shunning moves escalating regional crises, stressing the need for ending use of military means for settlement of political disputes.

Actualization of potential capacities in the field of economic cooperation between the two countries is an unavoidable necessity, he said, noting that Iran and Oman's geographical location and scientific, technical, industrial and financial potentials have provided the two countries with a bright prospects for boosting economic ties.
