Japan approves new sanctions on N Korea

TOKYO, Feb. 21 (MNA) Japan's Cabinet on Friday approved a set of additional sanctions on North Korea for its recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch.

Under the measures, adopted in the National Security Council last week, a travel ban on North Koreans and foreigners with ties to the communist nation will be expanded.

Japan will also bar the entry of North Korean ships into its ports.

All money transfers to North Korea, except for those less than 100,000 yen (US$880) for humanitarian purposes, will be prohibited as well.

Several countries have taken steps against North Korea in tandem with efforts to adopt a new UN Security Council resolution.

South Korea suspended the operation of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, and the US introduced legislation imposing sanctions on Pyongyang.
