Vice-president welcomes enhanced ties with Japan on environment

Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA Vice-President and head of the Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar on Thursday welcomed enhanced ties with Japan on environment.

She made the remarks in a meeting with adviser to Japanese Prime Minister Katsuyuki Kawai.

Katsuyuki has led a Japanese delegation to Iran.

Post-sanctions era is an opportunity for active presence of Iran in the international and regional equations, Ebtekar noted.

She said that the Islamic Republic of Iran expects the Japanese government to develop international cooperation with Iran and share experience with Iran on protection of the environment and the know-how to thwart degradation of environment.

Ebtekar thanked Japan for cooperation with Iran during the sanctions era including the Japanese support to decrease of air pollution, revival of Orumiyeh Lake and Anzali wetland.

She said that the government has made preparatory works to reduce greenhouse gases and stem climate change and dust pollution and is in dire need of the Japanese expertise to advance the plans adopted in this respect.
