Japan ready to work with Iran in fight on Daesh

TEHRAN (Tasnim) A senior Japanese official voiced his countrys preparedness to cooperate with Iran in the fight against the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

Katsuyuki Kawai, a senior adviser to Japans prime minister, said Tokyo is ready to boost cooperation with Iran in the battle against the Daesh terrorists.

He made the comments in a meeting with Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Wednesday.

He noted that strengthening of relations between Iran and Japan will contribute to the establishment of stability and security in the Middle East region and Asia.

Kawai, who is heading an economic and diplomatic delegation, said his trip is meant to prepare the ground for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abes visit to Iran.

For his part, Zarif explained that Iran does not pursue mere economic interaction with Japan, but eyes expansion of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties with Tokyo.

The top Iranian diplomat stated that a range of advantages, including perfect geopolitical position, natural resources, skilled human resources and high level security, provide strategic support for Irans interaction with the other countries.

Japan seeks to revive relations with Iran after a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) took effect in January.

The nuclear deal, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), has terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, reopened the doors of foreign investment to the countrys market, and prepared the ground for a much-anticipated economic boom.
