Norwegian FM: Iran plays constructive role in Mideast

TEHRAN (FNA)- Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi said Tehran is playing a constructive role in the region, and his country seeks greater cooperation with Iran after the nuclear deal.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran plays a constructive role in the region," Brende said during the meeting in Oslo on Wednesday.

He underlined the Norwegian companies' interest in returning to the Iranian market for joint ventures in light of the July nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers.

Takht Ravanchi, for his part, referred to the proper grounds created after the implementation of the nuclear agreement, and said there are opportunities for cooperation in fisheries, oil and gas, renewable energies, environment, banking and finance as well as shipping industries.

During the meeting, the two officials also conferred on the latest regional developments.

Iranian Vice-President for Legal Affairs Elham Aminzadeh in a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Tehran Odyssey Norheim last February called for the further broadening of mutual cooperation.

"Iran welcomes further expansion of cooperation with Norway in political, economic and cultural fields," Aminzadeh said during the meeting in Tehran.

She underlined a bright future for the two countries' ties through interaction in cultural, social, legal and energy fields.

The Iranian vice-president pointed to the West's support for the terrorist factions in the region, and said, "I hope that the western countries will relinquish their support for the terrorist groups."

The Norwegian ambassador, for her part, pointed to the status quo of Oslo-Tehran mutual cooperation, and said, "The time is now ripe for improving Norway-Iran relations and the two countries will have high-level negotiations in the near future."

Norheim also underlined willingness of the Norwegian academic centers to broaden cooperation with Iran, and said, "While we can have good cooperation in fishery areas with Iran, our universities are willing to cooperate with Iran in scientific and cultural fields."
