Medvedev denounces NATO actions against Russia

MUNICH, Feb. 14 (MNA) The Russian Prime Minister, Dmitri Medvedev, denounced the Cold War atmosphere between the West and Russia over the sanctions and persistence of hostile action by NATO near the borders of his country.

Medvedev said at the political segment of the annual Munich Security Conferencethat the sanctions policy against Russia has led to a new phase of cold war and confrontation, but not by the will of Moscow.

The Russian Prime Minister referred to the real threats for the world, which are not exactly those that NATO, Europe and the United States constantly denounce: they insist on saying that Russia is the threat.

Medvedev recommended that amid the complicated situation that affects all countries, the West should give up its doctrine of containment and join Russia in solving pressing problems.

He expressed confidence that all sides still have an opportunity to 'join together and respond to common threats'. He said, however, that the restitution of mutual trust cannot be subject to prior conditions.

In another segment of his speech, Medvedev criticized the refusal of the West to cooperate with Russia in the fight against terrorism. The Prime Minister's speech covered the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and Ukraine.

At the end of his speech, the Russian Prime Minister said, that the meeting between the Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis was a shining example of rapprochement between the two Christian churches.
