Farhadis new project draws foreign interest

Tehran, Feb 14, IRNA Renowned Iranian director Asghar Farhadis upcoming film The Salesman has been luring buyers.

Farhadis latest work has been presented at the European Film Market (EFM) of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), February 11-19 in Germany, by the Paris-based Memento Films International (MFI).

MFI, which produced Farhadis A Separation and The Past, has co-produced the film. It is also handling its international sales and will distribute the project in France.

So far in the EFM, the French co-producer has sealed deals to distributor companies across the world including Frenetic (Switzerland), Lucky Red (Italy), Doma Inc. (Japan), Challan (South Korea), Gutek Films (Poland), Alambique (Portugal), Seven Films (Greece) and Cinart (Benelux Union), screendaily.com reported.
The movie which was shot in winter in Iran is going through the post-production stage and will likely get ready for its debut screening in Cannes Film Festival in May.

Similar to his previous works, The Salesman which is Farhadis seventh feature, appears to weave social, moral and political themes through the personal journey of its protagonist.

Although the fine details of the project are largely under wraps, Farhadi has revealed that it is a contemporary tale revolving around a couple whose relationship abruptly turns violent due to societal pressures.

The movie examines the slow transformation of a calm and inoffensive man into an uncompromising and cruel human being.
As in my previous films, the movie addresses how social challenges can propel the downfall of some people, said Farhadi, according to Financial Tribune.
Long-time Farhadi collaborators Taraneh Alidoosti, who played the titular role in the critically-praised film About Elly as well as Fireworks Wednesday and The Beautiful City and Shahab Hosseini, who appeared in Farhadis Golden Bear and Oscar-winning A Separation, as well as About Elly co-star as the central couple.

EFM is one of the most important international film industry gatherings. Film buyers and sellers, producers, distributors and financiers as well as representatives of the global TV and Home Entertainment market get up-to-date on the latest productions and developments in the global film scene, negotiate film rights and make or foster business network.
