FM off to Germany for Syria meeting, Munich Security Conference

Tehran, Feb 11, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif left here for Germany on Thursday to take part in the meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) in Bavaria and the Munich Security Conference slated for February 12-14.

Zarif is accompanied by his Deputy for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier had on Sunday announced that Zarif and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir would be present in the ISSG meeting.

Representatives of Russia, Egypt, China, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates will take part in the meeting, the Russian news agency, Sputnik, reported on Wednesday quoting a statement by the German foreign ministry.

It added that the participants would discuss the implementation of the Vienna principles, UN Security Council resolution 2254 on Syrian reconciliation and the continuation of the Geneva peace talks.

UN-mediated negotiations between the Syrian government and several opposition delegations in the Swiss city of Geneva were suspended last week.
