Tehran ready to discuss oil market situation with Riyadh despite tensions

Iran is ready to discuss the situation on the international oil markets with Saudi Arabia despite the tensions between the two countries, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Tensions escalated betweenSaudi Arabia and Iran afterthe Sunni kingdom executed a prominent Shiite cleric inJanuary. Riyadh closed its embassy inTehran followingattacks onits diplomatic missions inthe country byIranians protesting againstthe execution.
"We support any form ofdialogue and cooperation withOPEC member states, including Saudi Arabia," the Iranian Press TV channel quoted Zanganeh assaying.


According tothe minister, some Gulf countries have expressed a desire foreconomic gain bymaintaining oil price declines, however "what they want toachieve is not forthe sake ofeconomic benefits."
"If there was a strong political will, the price ofoil would have been balanced injust a week," Zanganeh said, asquoted bythe media.


Since the collapse inoil prices inthe first half ofJanuary, officials fromOPEC member states and non-OPEC countries have been considering holding a meeting toaddress the declining oil prices, which have caused significant financial problems forsome states. The decline inoil prices have been linked withoverproduction oncrude.

According toa report bythe International Energy Agency (IEA), Iran, one ofOPEC's leading producers, increased its daily output by80,000 barrels inJanuary, while the top OPEC producer, Saudi Arabia, posted a 70,000-increase inoutput duringthe first month of2016.
