Iran’s President congratulates Chinese counterpart on new year

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday felicitated his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the Chinese New Year.

In his letter to President Xi, Rouhani congratulated China’s nation and government on the occasion.

He further pointed to a recent visit by the Chinese president to Iran, saying that the “successful” visit opened a new chapter in Tehran-Beijing ties.

Rouhani expressed the hope that comprehensive and strategic partnership between the two states would be practically realized through increasing cooperation.

The Iranian president also wished health and success for his counterpart and progress and prosperity for the Chinese nation.

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.

It is also known as the Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month.

The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between January 21 and February 20. In 2016, the first day of Chinese New Year fell on Monday, February 8.
