Zika virus disease non-existent in Iran
Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA- Head of Communicable Diseases Management Center of the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education said that despite the existence of Zika mosquito, there is no sign of this disease in Iran and the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Mohammad Mahdi Gooya told IRNA on Sunday that the Zika virus is a mosquito-borne disease but whether it is passed from human to human is not clear.

He said that Zika causes a minor disease, with symptoms consisting of fever, headache, body pain, conjunctivitis and rashes.

He added that a causal link between Zika infection in pregnancy and microcephaly has not been established.

Zika was first detected in Uganda in 1947, but has never caused an outbreak on this scale. Brazil first reported the cases of Zika in South America in May 2015.

The virus has since spread to more than 20 countries in the region.
