Friend in deed: Iran ready for across-the-board cooperation with Russia

Iranian companies want to expand their presence in Russias construction, oil and consumer market, a senior Iranian trade and planning official told Sputnik in Moscow.

Mina Mehrnoush, the head ofplanning atthe Organization forTrade Development inIran, who leads an Iranian delegation ona visit toMoscow, said that now is a good time forestablishing new contacts betweenthe two countries organizations and companies.
First, the international sanctions imposed onour country are now gone. Secondly, Russias relations witha number ofits traditional trading partners are not good, which gives the Iranian firms a chance toestablish a foothold inthe Russian market. Until now our exchanges have been limited toagriculture, butwe now have good prospects also inconstruction and construction materials, oil refinery and textiles. Iran wants tofind a niche foritself inall these segments ofthe Russian economy, Mina Mehrnoush said.


During their stay inMoscow, the Iranian delegation met withrepresentatives ofabout fifty Russian import companies forconstructive and very promising dialogue held aspart ofthe Russian-Iranian Trade Council.

Mina Mehrnoush also mentioned tourism asone ofthe most promising areas ofcooperation.
As far asI know, three million Russians canceled their planned visits toTurkey duringthis holiday season alone. I think that many more are now looking foralternative destinations and Iran, withits many historical and architectural highlights and resorts, could be one such destination. Russians are welcome tocome toIran! she said inconclusion.
