Iran-IAEA cooperation should not be marred by politics: Russia

Russia has expressed hope that the Islamic Republics cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will not be affected by politics as a nuclear agreement between the Islamic Republic and six world powers is being implemented.

Work in IAEA has started. In the framework of Tehrans compliance with additional protocols on guarantees, we hope that it will not be politicized and that all sides will do everything possible to fulfill them,Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

Work on implementing the nuclear agreement, dubbed theJoint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is being done in a routine mode, Zakharova said.

The Russian diplomat also noted that further development of Irans nuclear program and international cooperation with Tehran should be carried out strictly in the framework of the JCPOA and the Councils Resolution 2231 (2015).

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany finalized the JCPOA in Vienna, on July 14, 2015. A few days later, the JCPOA was turned into international law through the 2231 resolution.

Elsewhere in her remarks, Zakharova emphasized that Moscow will actively contribute to ensuring security of JCPOA during the full course of its implementation at least in the next 10 years.

On January 16, Iran and the P5+1 started to implement the nuclear agreement.

After the JCPOAwent into effect, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the UN Security Council and the United Stateswere permanentlylifted. Iran in return has put some limitations on its nuclear activities.

Tehran has agreed to provisionally apply the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty as a confidence-building gesture under the countrys nuclear deal with the P5+1. The protocol gives vast access to the IAEA inspectors to Iran's nuclear sites with no or a short notice.
