No return to past conditions: Iran envoy in Italy

Rome, Jan 20, IRNA Iran's Ambassador to Rome Jahanbakhsh Mozaffari said here on Tuesday that economic sanctions were unfair stressing that conditions will not go back.

In a press conference held at ANSA news agency on the verge of the visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Italy, he said, 'The world has recognized that sanctions are not a solution.'

'Italy is a gateway for us to Europe. In the post-sanctions era, too, Rome will have an outstanding status with Tehran. It is the reason that the first visit of President Rouhani to Europe takes place from Italy's capital.'

Mozaffari said a 120-member trade delegation including six ministers are going to accompany the Iranian president during his visit to Italy.

He said the Italian energy firm Eni was the last major European company to leave Iran under sanctions and it never ceased its ties. 'In future, we will hear good news about Eni's return to Iran.'

He criticized West's confirmation of bombarding Yemen by Saudi Arabia and added, 'Instead of instigating the countries where it has influence, West shall encourage them to adopting friendly, logical, and constructive ways.'

The Iranian ambassador also said that Iran and Vatican have always held excellent relations.
