Irans oil minister due in Oman Thursday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh will visit neighboring Oman on Thursday in his first foreign trip after the recent implementation of the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, and the subsequent termination of anti-Iran sanctions.

Heading a delegation, Zanganeh will make the one-day trip to hold meetings with Omani oil officials.

He is scheduled to pursue the implementation of contracts previously signed between the two countries and also negotiate on new grounds for development of energy cooperation.

Oman is considered Irans second trade partner among the countries in the Middle East.

Reports said in October that Iran is looking into a plan to pipe its natural gas to Oman and have it liquefied there for exports to international markets.

To the same effect, energy authorities from Iran and Oman have reportedly agreed to undertake a joint technical feasibility study on the construction of a 200-kilometer subsea pipeline across the Persian Gulf.

The two countries reportedly plan to take Irans gas to the liquefaction facilities of Omans Qalhat LNG plant.

Some of supplies in the pipeline would also be used to meet Omans expanding gas demand.

In a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in 2012, Iran and Oman agreed in principle to construct this subsea pipeline.
