Syria peace talks need ‘good faith effort’ from Russia, Iran - Kerry

US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed on Wednesday that the intra-Syrian negotiations scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 25 require 'a good faith effort' from Moscow and Tehran.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Since the start of the conflict in Syria, Geneva has hosted two rounds of UN-brokered talks between representatives of the Syrian authorities and opposition.

However, the Geneva negotiations have so far failed to yield any significant results.
"It will be difficult. It will require good faith effort by Russia, Iran, by all the players to push for the implementation of the Geneva communique, which calls for a transition unity government," Kerry stated in his remarks on US foreign policy agenda for 2016.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with the country's government forces fighting against opposition factions and extremist groups such as the Daesh, and the al-Nusra Front.
