US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed on Wednesday that the intra-Syrian negotiations scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 25 require 'a good faith effort' from Moscow and Tehran.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik)�� Since the start of�the conflict in�Syria, Geneva has hosted two rounds of�UN-brokered talks between�representatives of�the Syrian authorities and opposition.

However, the Geneva negotiations have so far failed to�yield any significant results.
"It will be difficult. It will require good faith effort by�Russia, Iran, by�all the players to�push for�the implementation of�the Geneva communique, which calls for�a transition unity government," Kerry stated in�his remarks on�US foreign policy agenda for�2016.


Syria has been mired in�civil war since�2011, with�the country's government forces fighting against�opposition factions and extremist groups such as�the Daesh, and the al-Nusra Front.
