Sarmadi: Execution of prominent freedom-seeker sets ablaze region

Tehran, Jan 7, IRNA - First Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi said on Thursday that execution of a prominent freedom-seeker is the root cause of unrest in the region.

Sarmadi made the remarks in a meeting with Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah on Thursday.

In the meeting, the two sides reviewed the most significant issues and developments in the region.

Highlighting the positive role of Iran in regional developments, Sarmadi said certain countries try to create unrest and insecurity which is very harmful for the security of the region.

All countries are responsible for restoring peace and security in the region and they should carry out their duties to this end and avoid escalation of tensions, Sarmadi said.

Denouncing the action of some people in storming Saudi embassy and its consulate in Tehran and Mashad, he said Iran's president has issued required directives to deal with those behind the incident.

Iran believes that terrorism and extremism are among major problems in the region and heralds in fight with the phenomenon, he added, but some countries are misusing the issue of terrorism to attain their interests.

Execution of a prominent cleric and freedom-seeker indicates to what extent they have been disappointed and managed to ignite tensions in the region and it is among duties of all countries to prevent such provocative acts, Sarmadi said.
