Americans must roundly reject Trump, Clinton says

Leading US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has called on Americans to roundly reject the candidacy of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump because of his dangerous rhetoric about women, Mexican immigrants and Muslims.

We should not reward people who use inflammatory rhetoric, who use the kind of derogatory comments, whether it's about Muslims, or Mexicans, or women, or people with disabilities, whoever it might be, Clinton said in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday.

That is not a sign of leadership. That's a sign of, you know, showmanship, of desperation, that should be rejected roundly by the American people, she urged.

Trump has created a furor by proposing a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims" entering the United States, following the November mass shooting in California.

The New York real-estate mogul has also called for a database to track Muslims across the United States, and he has also said that the US would have "absolutely no choice" but to close down mosques.

Clinton condemned Trumps proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country. She has said that the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq and Syria are using Trumps rhetoric to recruit new people.

In Tuesdays interview, Clinton stated that Americans will need to work with Muslims to take on Daesh terrorists, and noted that Trumps controversial remarks on the issue are unhelpful.

I believe ISIS cannot be contained, it has to be defeated, Clinton said. But in order to do that, we need to work within our own country, with Muslim Americans, so that what I'm hearing from the other side is not only offensive and shameful, it's dangerous, counter-productive.

Trump continues to lead the crowded GOP field despite making controversial remarks against Mexican immigrants, women and Muslims.
