Parliament vows support for Iran missile budget

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani pledged on Tuesday that the legislature will lend more support to the countrys missile industry by enhancing the budget allocated for the industry in the 6th quinquennial development program.

In a visit to an Islamic Revolution Guards Corps missile defense base, Larijani admired the IRGCs missile capabilities, describing the progress made in the field as the most effective deterrence against threats and a factor behind peace and security in Iran and the region.

The IRGCs scientific and technological advances have unnerved the enemies, he added.

Back in June 2015, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei outlined the general policies of the country's 6th quinquennial development plan.

On defense and security, the proclamation necessitated an increase in Iran's defense capabilities at the level of a regional power in order to fulfill the national interests by allocating at least 5 percent of the national budget to boosting the defense power.

It also put an emphasis on an upgrade in Iran's deterrent power through enhancement of missile capabilities, defensive technologies and production of major defensive weapons proportional to different types of threats.

Last month, a member of the parliaments national security and foreign policy commission also unveiled plans for efforts to increase the countrys defense budget.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stressed that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.
